Our big day!

Today was a big day for us Canadian boys. We saw Letterman! But, that wasn’t all. At 9:00 am the day of the show, we lined up in front of the Ed Sullivan theater for a chance to get a ticket for that days taping. In the website, it states that there is a lottery system and that the draw was random, however, don’t believe this for one second. After filling out a form, we were sent to an adjoining room where we sat down to “have our forms checked”. In fact this was a cleverly disguised interview, we laughed, we hammed it up, and we charmed and sure enough, within 2 hours we got the call that we had tickets to that days filming! I mean, who wouldn’t include a group of lookers such as ourselves…sheesh.

Before entering the show, we were given strict instructions, such as…be enthusiastic and laugh, even if you think it is not funny. The actual taping was quite well orchestrated as was expected. A “stand up comic” gave a brief introduction, we met the members of the CVS band and Paul Schaffer and then Letterman came out and welcomed us! It was neat to get a real behind the scenes view at how TV is made. There were many people just hanging around, pulling the strings, camermen and lots of people running around with clipboards and pieces of paper. My only complaint was that the camera and the teleprompter blocked a direct view of Letterman and his guests. We saw much of the show as you would…on tv!

Oh yeah, did I mention it was a big day!

Prior to Letterman, we had some time to kill. After wandering around, we ended up in FAO Swartz…and guess who we saw there…The Blue Man group. Good things that toddlers are no match for our brut strength, it was easy to push them out of the way and get a good view.

Tomorrow, a second attempt at the Carnegie Deli…
